Review: The Sibyl by Par Lagerkvist

This is the story, parable, of how a young girl is chosen to be the vessel through which god speaks in the most revered temple of Delphi. It tells of the girl’s love, desire, revulsion, and hate of this god that brings her both pleasure and pain as he consumes her day after day, year after year; as well as, the fear and vengeance that he bestows on her for loving someone other than god. While, I can’t say that I enjoyed the novella, it has got me thinking, and isn’t that what good stories are supposed to do?  This is one story that will be difficult to forget.
